Our History

Image for page: Our History

Abbey Medical Group has provided local medical care to the east side of York for over 60 years. It was formed in 2004 by the merger of Parkview Surgery and Tang Hall Surgery. These medical Practices were started in the 1940s as single doctor surgeries by Dr's Ian Bruce and Angus MacLeod. Dr Bruce also had a surgery in Huntington, near to where Victoria Way Surgery now stands.

We have 7 GP Partners and one salaried doctor working in the Practice at present, as well as a full complement of highly-trained Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Receptionists. We have also developed our management team across the Practice in the last 4 years to help us respond to the many rapid changes being introduced in the modern NHS.

Education is an important function and both Practices have been involved in training GP Registrars since the 1980s. We also now teach students from the Hull/York Medical School and junior hospital doctors on attachment.
