Dr Bill J Tams - Partner

MB ChB MRCGP PGME

Dr Bill Tams joined Tang Hall Lane Surgery in 1981. Bill has been interested in medical education throughout his career and is committed to developing the training status of the practice. In 2007 Bill was made the Honarary Senior Clinical Tutor at Hull & York Medical School.

Nominally senior partner Bill works as a full-time member of The Abbey Medical clinical team. Along with Abbey's excellent office and nursing teams, the clinical team aim to continue to provide clinical care to the highest standard.

Dr Carmel Parry - Partner

MB ChB MRCGP

Dr Carmel Parry qualified as a doctor in 1983 and joined the practice in 1989. Carmel specialises in emergency medicine, sports injuries and joint and muscle problems.

Carmel is particularly interested in sport injuries, musculo-skeletal medicine and emergency medicine.

Dr Anthony Sweeney - Partner

MB ChB MRCGP

Dr Anthony Sweeney qualified from Liverpool in 1981 and has worked in York for the past 26 years. Tony joined the Tang Hall Lane practice in 1985.

Tony was actively involved in medical politics and represented doctors at local, regional and national level. Anthony remains the Chairman of the York branch of the British Medical Association.

Tony is also active in many sports and has a particular interest in sports injuries.

Dr John Hamilton - Partner

MB ChB MRCGP DA

John Hamilton was born in Northern Ireland in 1954. He went to school in Belfast and trained at the Edinburgh University Medical School, graduating in 1977. John joined Parkview Surgery in January 1984.

John is married with 2 grown-up children and his interests in the Practice are Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Psychiatry of the Elderly and Out-of-Hours Care. Outside the Practice, John enjoy gardening, skiing, music and travel.

Dr Jan Hewitson - Partner

MB BS DRCOG MRCGP

Dr Hewitson was brought up in Knaresborough and returned to Yorkshire to the Harrogate G.P. Training Scheme after studying at St. George’s Medical School, London. She joined Parkview Practice in 1988, just after the move to the current Millfield Avenue premises. She has been a Trainer for over a decade. Dr Hewitson is now also involved in teaching HYMS students.

Dr Hewitson enjoys all aspects of General Practice. The challenge of working out a diagnosis and management plan from a set of clues (or symptoms) remains an excitement. She has always relished the fact that as a GP one does not have to decide on a particular speciality! Cardiology, paediatrics and palliative care remain specific interests.

Dr Hewitson has had a variety of roles both within and outside the Practice over the years. She is currently the Training lead and is serving her 2 years on the executive management committee at the Practice.

Dr Hewitson is married with 2 daughters.

Dr Jamie MacLeod - Partner

MA MB B.Chir DRCOG MRCGP

Dr MacLeod qualified from Cambridge and St Thomas’ Hospital 1978.  He did his GP training in London, Papua New Guinea and Skipton.  

Dr MacLeod joined Abbey Medical Group in 1986. His special interests within Practice are Child health, Psychiatry and Practice organisation.

Dr Jane Maloney - Partner

B.Med.Sci(Hons) BM BS DRCOG MRCGP 

Dr Maloney qualified from Nottingham in 1984 and has been with Abbey medical group since 1999. She works three days per week at the practice.
 
Dr Maloney's main interests are in respiratory (chest) medicine, and also in minor surgery.
